Still time to hike in 2017!
 
 
We've a handful of available spaces
 
 
The season is now in full-swing and we have been walking around northern Italy's gorgeous lakes with our lovely group of Hedonistic Hikers, and next week we'll be in Lucca, Volterra and Elba.  It feels wonderful to be back in this stunning landscape and we have been eating and drinking pretty well too!  The shops and markets here are full of wonderful spring veggies, especially asparagus, and we've shared some great recipe ideas below.  We've also been busy researching our new tour for 2018 and here is just a taster of what lies ahead ...!

Paestum - City of Temples
 
The area around Paestum in the south of Italy is famous for its Mozzarella di Bufala cheese as well as one of the most important archaeological sites on the whole peninsula.

The town of Paestum is reachable by train from Naples, and has some of the best-preserved Greek temples in all of Europe. Anyone joining our Southern Italy tour in October will have the chance to see this historic region.

A sneak preview of our new tour for 2018!
 
The tour is taking shape and we can reveal that it will start and finish in the gourmet capital of Bologna and head towards the sea on Italy's Adriatic side.
Our plan is for it to run in May and September and we'll be hiking in the heart of olive groves, Chianti Rufina and truffle country. We'll have three different hotels and will finish with visits to some of the most dazzling early Christian mosaics in the whole of Italy.  The rolling landscape means this tour will be mid-way between our most and least challenging walks.  More will follow in the July newsletter ...

Amazing Asparagus
 
Asparagus is everywhere in Italy at the moment and signals the start of all those wonderful spring fruits and vegetables which make the seasons so interesting and varied.
Even if you are reading this in a part of the world where the familiar green spears are not in season, you might keep this link to some great recipes from Italia! Magazine and get busy in the kitchen later in the year! Buon appetito!
